This Is the Way

Luke 14: 12—14

Do good to those who cannot repay. Bless those who do not know you. Love those who oppose you. Give to those who ask of you. Far better to give than to receive. Better to be poor with a clean conscience than to eat the fruit of unrighteous acts. Humble yourself now that He may lift you up later. Be generous with the undeserving. Love the unlovable and the outcast. If you do not do more than those living in spiritual darkness, of what worth is your faith? Forego payment for a good deed and the Master will repay you when He returns. Love, for God is love. Treat others as you would have them treat you, if you had their needs.

A few days in the sun and this life passes. Everything after comes from this time, this life, this brief mortal span. You can store up a treasure for the ages, or you can live for yourself, deny the corruption feeding at your flesh, and burn up your inheritance today. Won’t you turn? Won’t you reconsider your way? Come now, taste and see that the Lord is good. He is reasonable and willing to engage with you in this life and affairs pertaining to it. What more does He ask of you than this—that you do right, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God?

Will you give your best for His Name? Will you say, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” He invites you to a special seat in the House of God, among His family, beside those who honor His Name. Will you ask why give what is yours to those you don’t know, or will you come willing to wash the feet of your Lord’s servants, making amends, and seeking atonement for the folly of fools? Will you be proud, defiant, and self-serving, or will you become the wife of noble character? Will you serve a lie with your lips that you do not hold in your heart, or will you hold a fast that is acceptable and pleasing to the Lord?

You can be a repairer of broken walls and a restorer of the way of life. You might save a people through willingness to submit to the will of God and humility. You might change the course of nations. Look at Nehemiah. Consider your way this day. Do you see? Do you see what they do to profane His Name? Do you see what they do to provoke His wrath? Do you see what they do to arouse His jealousy? The Lord seeks one who will repair the wall and stand in the gap. Will you? Remember Nehemiah’s prayer. Remember how Job prayed for his children and friends. Remember that it mattered then, and the prayers we offer today matter just as much if we remain in Him and He in us.

Go with God and be blessed this day.
